Brisbane Marketing has secured another international conference win for the city which is expected to attract more than 600 delegates and provide an economic benefit of more than $1.2 million.
The annual International Pulse Trade and Industry Confederation convention will be held at the Sofitel Brisbane Central in May 2010.
The annual convention – previously hosted in countries such as Turkey, Mexico and France – will be hosted by the Confédération Internationale du Commerce et de l’Industrie des Légumes Secs and Pulse Australia – the peak national body which represents all sectors of the pulse industry in Australia, from growers and agronomists through to researchers, merchants, traders and exporters.
Pulses are the edible seeds of legumes and include healthy-living favourites such as beans, peas, lentils and chickpeas.
Brisbane City Council Chairman for Economic Development, Councillor Jane Prentice said that Brisbane – as Australia’s new world city – would provide the perfect setting for the convention.
“Hosting these types of business events is a great way of showcasing our city to the world and also supporting the Brisbane economy,” Cr Prentice said.
“Brisbane has a proven reputation for hosting world events and conferences and I am certain delegates will enjoy not only our world class conference facilities but also our local attractions.”
Brisbane Marketing’s Director, Convention Bureau, Ms Annabel Sullivan said the conference win highlighted Brisbane’s new world strengths as a centre of knowledge and innovation and its appeal as a delegate-friendly destination.
“We were delighted to bring a conference of this calibre to Brisbane and we’re sure the city will deliver a world-class event and a unique Australian experience for delegates,” said Ms Sullivan.
