The 20th Annual Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB) Staff Conference was held in Cairns recently and one of the highlights of the conference was the announcement of Brisbane Marketing’s Juliet Lally as the winner of the AACB Staff Scholarship Award sponsored by Qantas Airways, Business Events Australia and AACB.
The award offers Convention Bureau staff an opportunity to demonstrate their professional commitment and their dedication to the industry. The scholarship is designed to encourage and promote career development and is part of AACB’s commitment to the recognition and encouragement of excellence.
The Brisbane Bureau was well represented with a total of three staff out of the seven finalists vying for the 2009 AACB Scholarship Award. Sia Glover, Rebecca Gauld and Juliet Lally provided excellent submissions.
Juliet’s Awards submission focused on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with the aim of studying the process undertaken by a meeting destination that transformed itself into a green meeting destination. Juliet will visit Portland, Oregon and Denver, Colorado in February next year to undertake the CSR study which will no doubt provide useful information and guidance for Brisbane Marketing and members.
The AACB Conference offers Convention Bureau staff the chance to participate in educational forums as well as identifying the latest trends and issues affecting the business of Convention Bureaux. It also allows delegates to catch-up on industry directions and to learn more about what the future holds for the business events industry in Australia.
