Brisbane continues international convention wins

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has maintained its strong presence in the competitive international marketplace with an impressive run of consecutive convention wins.

In the first six weeks of the financial year, the Centre secured four new international meetings across key industry sectors, delivering an additional 2,000 international visitors to Brisbane.

The Centre’s International Team works closely with Brisbane Marketing in securing these major conventions for Brisbane and these recent wins are a clear demonstration of the successful collaborative partnership.

World Congress on Conservation Agriculture 2011 (500 delegates), International Congress of Voice Teachers 2013 (400 delegates) and International Conference on Diet Activity and Methods 2015 (500 delegates) are all booked into the Centre’s new boutique meetings venue, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Grey Street, opening 2011, which is specifically designed for meetings of 400 and 600.

Hosted by the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) in association with Griffith University and Opera Queensland, International Congress of Voice Teachers will be held in Australia for the first time in 2013 and organisers anticipate strong delegate numbers from Europe and the United States.

ANATS President, Dr Scott Harrison said that bringing the conference to Australia and Brisbane is recognition of the high calibre and innovative approaches to singing teaching in Australia.

"This event will stimulate further growth in the sector here, particularly as the arts are introduced into the National Curriculum," said Dr Harrison.

The International Conference on Diet Activity and Methods is one of the premier events in the areas of nutrition and physical activity and is attended by a wide range of policy makers and health professionals.

Queensland researchers at QUT will host the 2015 conference in Brisbane providing an excellent forum for Australian leaders in the field to present their research to a global audience.

The fourth new international convention win is the World Congress on Engineering Asset Management/Inter-quadrennial Congress on Fracture in 2010 (for 500 delegates) an inaugural joint meeting which will take place in the existing facilities of the BCEC.

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre General Manager, Robert O'Keeffe said there had been early high demand for the new Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Grey Street, which he said will provide the expanded Centre with unprecedented flexibility, offering facilities that are the perfect fit for meetings of 400 and 600 as well as being able to accommodate larger events up to 8,000.

"The establishment of further world class infrastructure offering great flexibility and choice will heighten the already strong appeal of Brisbane as a major international and regional meetings destination," Mr O’Keeffe said.

"We look forward to welcoming these events to Brisbane and the sharing of knowledge this diverse group will impart to the local industry and association sectors."

Brisbane Marketing's Director, Convention Bureau, Annabel Sullivan said the wins provide an opportunity for Brisbane to reinforce its rising status as Australia’s new world city.

"We are a place of thought-leaders where ideas and innovation are encouraged and supported by industry and government," she said.

"Hosting these types of conferences is of great economic benefit to Brisbane and they also provide an opportunity to showcase our city to the rest of Australia and the world.

"Brisbane offers conference organisers world class infrastructure, cost effective pricing and appealing delegate options," she said.
