Brisbane hairdressing icon Stefan Ackerie, the Best Job in the World campaign masterminds and the company behind the new Cloudland nightspot are all finalists in the Lord Mayor's Business Awards.
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said the 39 businesses and individuals shortlisted for the awards were spread across a range of industry sectors including information, communication and technology, mining technology, infrastructure, construction and the creative industries.
They include the founder of Stefan hairdressing, who is in the running for the Channel 7 Award for Business Person of the Year, and CumminsNitro, which could pick up the Nova 106.9 Award for Creativity following its successful Queensland Tourism international marketing campaign to recruit a Hamilton Island caretaker.
"The finalists come from diverse sectors but what they have in common is their significant contribution to Brisbane's knowledge economy," Cr Newman said in a statement.
"Some of Brisbane's most prominent companies are featured in the list, as well as some that fly under the radar. It's terrific to see such a wide cross-section of company sizes and sectors in this selection."
Cr Newman said the eight people nominated for individual gongs had inspired their industries through strong leadership and innovation.
Judges will now assess the 39 finalists to determine the best nominee for each award category along with an overall winner.
As the official media partner for the awards, brisbanetimes.com.au will deliver up-to-date news on the judging process, past winners, award front runners and the lavish gala dinner on October 8, when the recipients will be announced.
