Green transport has taken off in Brisbane with the advent of the city's newest public transport alternative - Green Cabs.
The fleet of cycle taxis operating out of South Bank through the city centre and along riverside bicycle pathways are providing carbon-free and fun transport options for people needing to travel short distances in and around the CBD.
Green Cabs Director Steve Kenway said the people of Brisbane have really taken to green transport.
"Our customers come from all walks of life and include families, couples, young poeple out on the town, people with disabilities, tourists and just about anybody who needs transport that is not only carbon free but also a lot of fun," Mr Kenway said.
"We have to thank South Bank Corporation for seeing the potential of our service and embracing Green Cabs after a 20 year gap since they operated throughout Brisbane during World Expo88 - our riders love working in South Bank and providing services around designated areas within the facility and beyond to the streets of Brisbane's CBD, West End and the Valley.
"We are now opening up unique river side tours which take in some of the greatest sights of Brisbane including the newly opened Kurilpa Bridge and GoMA, but you an tailor a ride to go via the river path all the way to New Farm or Toowong if you like.
We hope that in the future visitors to Brisbane add grabbing a Green Cab River Tour to their 'to do' list when in our great city.
"We love the Brisbane River and we know from the response from our customers that they want to enjoy it as well - to meet this demand and to celebrate our first birthday of operations, we have developed the dedicated river tours," Mr Kenway said.
The best time to catch a Green Cab at the Wheel of Brisbane at South Bank is at weekends with cabs operating from 12 noon till late both days and on public holidays, plus Friday evenings from 5pm. A limited school holiday service is also available.
